Patrick J. McGovern started a simple database 50 years ago tracking the growing use of computers. He went on to build a global publishing fortress that has created a plethora of successful magazines and websites, including Computerworld and Macworld. He died on Wednesday in Palo Alto, California at 76 years old.
The company he founded, IDG, confirmed his death but they offered no cause of death.
If you ever read the "For Dummies" books, McGovern's company developed them under his watch. The Dummies books were instructional in nature.
